'Framed Glory and Fame Lithograph', Celebrating 25 years since the Bombers won the 1984-85 Premierships

Price: $495.00 (Plus $50 for delivery if required) The all-conquering Bombers of the mid Eighties were feared and respected by their opponents for their skill and toughness. They were also much loved by the Essendon faithful because of their lovable and larger than life characters. Predominantly a bunch of down to earth lads lead by a tough blue-collar coach, who combined to be near unbeatable during the Back-to-Back years of 84 – 85. Together in this extraordinary lithograph of Jamie Cooper's painting are all the players who participated in both flags, letting down their hair in the MCG change rooms. After extensive consultation with several players of the day, artist Jamie Cooper has transported us back in time and placed us in the inner sanctum of this wild bunch at one of the most memorable moments in Bomber history. Stories from this era are part of the Club’s folklore, some of which are woven into the scene exposing some of the player’s unique personalities. 'Framed Glory and Fame Lithograph', Celebrating 25 years since the Bombers won the 1984-85 Premierships

Part 1 Revealed

Here is your first taste of the painting Glory and Fame - 25 Year Anniversary Celebration of Back to Back Premierships in 1984-85 by Jamie Cooper. The famously fiery Merv Neagle has gone off tap. One night at training Sheeds gave Merv a bake and sent him from the track to re assess his attitude. Instead Merv reassessed and rearranged the Coach’s locker. First putting his fist through the door before scattering Sheedy’s clothes and contents across the change room, then walking out and going home for the night. Note the coach imprint on his fist and the whistle flying through the air.

Each week leading up to the Glory and Fame Ball in July, we will be releasing another piece of the painting while it is in production. This exclusive release of only 200 framed prints is available only from the Essendon Football Club and www.essendonfc.com.au and each print is accompanied by an A-Tag Certificate of Authenticity and signed by every player* from 84-85.

Part 2 Revealed

Jamie Cooper made the following comments on this section of the painting:

"Mark Harvey was courageous often at the risk of life and limb. He was a tough unit from Keilor, down to earth, tough as nails and silly as a wheel. True to form he is already back in the moccasins.

"Neil “Nobby” Clarke was the consummate team man. Quiet, dedicated and hard working. It was men like him that typified the spirit and backbone of this group. It is fitting that he holds the cup happily in both arms.

"Shane Heard, another who typified the hard work ethic also has a hand on the cup

"T.D. the inspirational leader fills the cup full of champers and in typical unselfish manner let’s others take centre stage. Along side him is another old faithful Gary Foulds.

"Darren “Daisy” Williams was one of the smallest members of the team but had as big a heart as anyone. Tough, skillful and brave, Williams was highly respected by the playing group. These traits were honed from a tough upbringing that led him to having an ulcer by the time he arrived at the club as an 18 year old. Here he pops a “quik eze” tablet before he has a drink of celebration.

"Vice Captain and star of the team is Tim Watson who is seen here in his favorite spot, the massage table.

"Kevin “Spitfire” Walsh, maligned by Bomber fans at times, was certainly held in high regard by his teammates. He shut down the best in the business on a regular basis and was endowed with both brains and a sense of humor. On one famous occasion he secretly brought his own remote control to one of Sheedy’s many game analysis meetings. Every time Sheeds pressed play 'Spitter' pressed fast forward, pause etc…until after 30 minutes the coach, in complete frustration, abandoned the meeting.

"A hysterical Simon Madden is very amused by his own joke, as he has given Walsh a bottle of sun block to protect his lily-white skin.

"Frank Dunnell was not shy in putting his case to Sheeds as to why he should be in the team but Kevin, who is typically already analyzing the game on video, is more interested in why his remote won’t work again and is looking knowingly in Walsh’s direction."

Part 3 Revealed

Jamie Cooper made the following comments on this section of the painting:

"Paul Salmon (obscured) keeps a steady hand on the cup as Tony “the trout” Elshaugh fools around and, as usual has his mouth open.

"Below on the floor a heavily iced Brian “Princess” Wood (note the tiara) famous for having to nurse his weary body after games, keeps his flowing locks in good order with a quick comb.

"Steve “Stan” Carey was a no frills, hard nut who also liked a few words…usually complaining about something. Here he gives Ezard a dose of his own medicine emptying a can of beer on his head.

"Billy Duckworth loved being in the middle of things on and off the ground. The Norm Smith Medalist singled handedly strangled the Hawks hopes in 84."
