Essendon aims to strengthen communities through sport and its affiliation with the Tiwi Bombers is another example of a partnership that aims to do exactly that. The Tiwi Islands have been home to some significant social issues but the establishment of a local football team has helped it make significant inroads. Essendon Football Club is proud to have the Tiwi Bombers as an affiliate club and it looks forward to monitoring its progress in the NTFL season which commences later this season.

Nathan Lovett Murray and Courtenay Dempsey travelled to Melville Island to watch the Tiwi Bombers train on Friday night ahead of their first home game for the season. Both Nathan and Courtenay had dinner on Friday with all the playing squad and attended their team meeting the next day. On Saturday they travelled to Bathurst Island with the team and saw the Bombers record their first win for the year under torrential rain against Darwin.
