Our Community Strategy
Essendon Football Club is in a strong position to encourage youth participation in sport and our priority is to work with organisations that can assist us in achieving this outcome.
Sporting clubs at all levels play a significant role in our community. They make a substantial contribution to the fabric of society by providing a focus for the community. They are places where people congregate and become connected with one another.
Sporting clubs provide a particular important focus for the adolescent community. Sport can provide adolescents with a sense of belonging and enhanced self-esteem. It can have a profoundly positive impact in terms of health and social adjustment.
Research indicates that adolescents involved in sport are far less likely to confront serious adolescent health issues such as depression, obesity and substance abuse. In so many ways sport is about harm prevention.
Vision
Essendon Football Club’s vision is to be recognised and respected as a club that appeals to the local and wider-based community through its continued and consistent actions for those communities.
This vision will be attained by effectively using the club’s brand, facility and personnel to “Strengthen Communities Through Sport”.
Key Objective
To achieve this vision, the Club needs to meet the following key objective:
Become the benchmark by making a real difference – We aim to be the best sporting organisation from a community perspective in Australia. This will be achieved through our community programs and activities, strong and lasting partnerships and living our own values. We must be genuine in our desire to make a real and significant difference in the community.
