Cancer Council

Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce that the Cancer Council is the club’s new preferred charity. Cancer is a disease that touches virtually every Australian at some stage of their lives through its impact on friends and family. Cancer does not discriminate, affecting men, women and children so it is a cause that all of our supporters can relate to and support.

In the past 18 months, Essendon Football Club has worked hard to develop a community strategy that delivers meaningful and lasting outcomes for the community. As a part of this process we have selected the Cancer Council as our preferred charity to support.

The Cancer Council is a well-known and respected cancer control organisation, existing to:

  • decrease cancer incidence and death
  • increase the quality of life of people affected by cancer
  • ultimately to defeat cancer

We envisage Essendon’s support of the Cancer Council will assist in their fundraising activities by providing access to our players and coaches to promote various events. Examples of these fundraisers include Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Daffodil Day and Girl’s Night In, to name but a few.

Essendon will also allocate one match in season 2006 as the Clash for Cancer. This match will be used to raise awareness of cancer and prevention messages, whilst also raising funds to help fight the disease. The Club will also support the Kids Go For Your Life campaign which aims to promote physical activity and healthy eating for children aged 0 –12.
