In 2011 the Essendon Football Club formed a partnership with both the Essendon District and Riddell District Junior Football Leagues. The primary goal of this partnership was for the Club to continue to actively support the development of grassroots football within its traditional heartland of the North-West of Melbourne.

In recognising the value of this community engagement, the Club was also very proud to announce an exciting partnership with Melbourne Airport. With the additional support of Melbourne Airport, all children (and their coaches!) participating across the EDFL and RDFL junior clubs have been offered the opportunity to participate in a number of 'once in a lifetime' experiences with the Essendon Football Club.

These experiences will include:

  • Melbourne Airport and Essendon Football Club - Junior Training Sessions
All junior teams within the EDFL and RDFL are offered the opportunity to conduct a training session on the hallowed turf of Windy Hill.
  • Melbourne Airport and Essendon Football Club - Junior Talent Camp
One under 14 player from each EDFL and RDFL club has the opportunity to attend a two-day talent camp in the mid year school holidays at Windy Hill. The talent camp gives each player an amazing insight into the life of an AFL footballer and included specialist training, matches and workshops with players, coaches, strength and conditioning, nutrition and recruiting staff of the Club.
  • Melbourne Airport and Essendon Football Club - Coaching Master Class
The coaches of the EDFL and RDFL junior leagues as well as local Auskick centres are offered the opportunity to participate in a Coaching Master Class at Windy Hill conducted by coaches and club staff. The evening includes training drills, tips and insights from our coaches and staff about modern coaching techniques and offers an opportunity for the local coaches to compare notes with the best in the business.

All clubs in the EDFL and RDFL also have a great opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of AFL football through this partnership with an offer from the Essendon Bombers to attend a number of matches during the season.
