On The Ball

The On The Ball program involves Year 8 classes spending a day at Essendon Football Club under the guidance of senior Essendon players and high profile netballers, trained to effectively deliver key harm prevention messages.

Bill Hutchison Foundation

The Bill Hutchison Foundation was established in 2005 as a public fund listed on the Register of Harm Prevention Charities and aims to make a differnce in the community.

Cancer Council

The Cancer Council is the Essendon Football Club's preferred charity. Cancer does not discriminate, affecting men, women and children so it is a cause that all of our supporters can relate to and support.

Our Community Strategy

The Essendon Football Club has implemented a formal community strategy based on increasing and sustaining youth participation in sport, and in so doing, strengthening the communities of which these adolescents as such an integral part.

Sporting clubs at all levels play a significant role in our community. They make a substantial contribution to the fabric of society by providing a focus for the community. They are places where people congregate and become connected with each other.

Sporting clubs provide a particular important focus for the adolescent community. Sport can provide adolescents with a sense of belonging and enhanced self-esteem. It can have a profoundly positive impact in terms of health and social adjustment.

Research indicates that adolescents involved in sport are far less likely to confront serious adolescent health issues such as depression, obesity and substance abuse. In so many ways sport is about harm prevention.

Strengthening communities through sport is about making a real and significant difference in the community.
