Get Involved, Stay Involved

Get Involved, Stay Involved is a program run jointly by Essendon Football Club, Bendigo Bombers and Bendigo Pioneers. The program will reach over 2000 students in 20 schools throughout the Bendigo region during 2007.

Objectives

  • Increase and sustain participation in sport by young people
  • Encourage healthy lifestyle choices among young people
Program Structure

Four players (two from Essendon, one from Bendigo Bombers and one from Bendigo Pioneers) will visit a primary school in Bendigo every week during the AFL season. The visits will be of one hour’s duration and will involve two components:
  1. Football Clinic
A football clinic will be conducted on the school’s oval. The clinic provides meaningful interaction between the students and players and engages participants in healthy activity. Students will have the opportunity to get involved and learn from their role models.
  2. Healthy Lifestyle Discussion
The players will discuss with the students the positives of adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes regular exercise and a healthy diet. The players will provide the students with real-life examples as to how this can be achieved and have students answer a range of questions.
At the conclusion of the visit, students will be provided with information packs, which will include:
  • Information on local sporting and recreation clubs/associations/activities
  • Tools and tips on healthy eating and regular exercise
