Windy Hill raises hope in the fight against cancer

Almost $250,000 has been raised for the Cancer Council of Victoria following the 2010 Moonee Valley Relay for Life which was hosted by Essendon Football Club at Windy Hill earlier this year.
The Moonee Valley Relay for Life Committee revealed last week that it was the second highest fundraising total in the event’s 11-year history.
Essendon’s general manager of community and media Simon Matthews said that the club was delighted by the result of the fundraiser and looking forward to hosting the district’s Relay for Life in 2011.
“It is a fantastic result and all those who supported the event can take great pride in the outcome,” Matthews said.
“Essendon is proud to host the Moonee Valley Relay for Life which is a key plank of our continued relationship with the Cancer Council of Victoria.”
Matthews encouraged Essendon supporters to continue to support the club’s preferred charity partnership with the Cancer Council Victoria through the upcoming Call to Arms campaign – a national campaign encouraging local clubs to wear a yellow armband while raising funds to fight cancer.
This year’s Call to Arms campaign will run from May and will culminate in the fifth annual Call to Arms match against to be played against St Kilda in Round 18 at the MCG.
“We are really looking forward to the upcoming Call to Arms campaign which continues to engage sporting clubs across Australia and raise awareness and funds for the fight against men’s cancer,” he said.
