"wonder hoe we Play Round 1 Hope its Richmond
scrap the Dream time and Lets Bring it on "
- MARK JONES
"Will do Geoff when I get home tonight. It is worth reading."
- Karen Arthur
"Peter. Wouldn't be as quick to cross out Atkinson and like Welsh I think NLM are good back up players (not in preperred 22 but can come in and do a job if lacking personal & have experenice which we don't have alot of). Atkinson, Myers & Jetta are 3 that I was hoping to see alot more of in 2011 given others got their chance to shine this year. I'm not saying he's as good but I think Atkinson can be our Harry O, good size & can run. Houli is 1 that if you can get a good trade for could let go but don't care if stays."
- Lance Finney
"karen - why dont u post on this site the key poinst made by shaw in inside football - that woudl be easier - thanks "
- GEOFF FARNELL
"Come on guys, don't expect me to be the only one to give an opinion on the list and who should go and stay, whats your thoughts? Everyone on radio is saying we have over rated our list which could be true if you were expecting this group to be top 4 now but given we have the second youngest list (2nd to WC, most under stated fact of this intire issue) I think theres a bit to work with, what do you think?"
- Lance Finney
"Didn't see alot of Jetta as he spent most of the year in the seconds. Must say he didn't do much for me early in the year but when he came back in towards the end I thought it was a different bloke, showed enough to persist with a bit like Myers to me, no gun but I think theres a bit there to work with, don't know what the stats say but he has a nice left boot. As for the 'go missing' element of Jetta, thats what you get with these guys, some are real flashy and can do the imposible, but some are less flashy and more consistant which Jetta & NLM are but none better than M.Long was."
- Lance Finney
"Lance I agree Yep Jason Laycock and also I think Houli Atkinson Dyson NML will go.I think We need a couple of strong Running defensive half backs (not Converted Midfielders)and a goal Kicking forward. We seem to have a lot of the Lonergan types but yes a Hard running Mid that can carry and break the lines is a must"
- peter marnham
"Yep Doris and Max, would love it to be Neale"
- Jeanette Jennings
"Please Essendon keep us in the loop of what applicants you are looking at as don't forget we are the ones that help out the club and if we are unhappy then funny things tend to happen............"
- Karen Arthur
"He Thought it was the end of the world as well"
- MARK JONES
"One of my Mate Broke his Hart when the Coach
Matthew Knights Got Sacked Oh he spat the Dummy "
- MARK JONES
"Now you can believe all was certainly not well within the playing group over a period of time. Please interview Neale Daniher if available."
- Doris Flanagan
"Very true Max, the new coach needs to be aware of the dynamics of Aboriginal culture to understand why this happens from time-to-time, in order to be able to manage them better. Sheedy understood this to an extent!"
- David Husk
"Lance Finney, one on our list has the required foot skills for what you say, you haven't watched young Leroy enough, mate this kid is good, and he rarely misses the delivery, by foot or hand, have a good look at him, his only big fault, is just about the same as Andy Lovett, he tends to go missing from time to time."
- Max Rodwell
"just read Lethals blog on the A.F.L site, seems he thinks we should consider Neale Daniher, and i must say that rather appeals to me, i for one was rather disappointed when he wasn't selected in the first place, but of the options available, Dean Laidley, Mark Williams, Or Neale daniher, it's a no brainer, only one is ours, opinions please."
- Max Rodwell
"Just a question that maybe someone can help me with. Has P.Roos come out and said he does not want the job SINCE Knights got the chop? I can understand why he would say hes not interested while Knights was still coach but now we are coachless ??????? Money talks all kinds of languages!! Given that IMO it was the 'high rollers' that insisted Knights got the chop and was prepared to 'contribute' to paying him out, we should be able to throw truck loads at Bomber or Roos to get them here. I have said before that I have never been a payed up member but if its gonna get either of these two here, the cheques in the mail."
- Lance Finney
"Pt 2. As for what I beleive we need: Without doubt I think we need a 'finnishing' midfeilder. As in 1 that can hit up a leading forward. A.Lovett was very good in this area with his speed an extra but no one on the list has great foot skills. Some will get better in time. Maybe 1 of these players out of contract that were looking at has these quilities. Other than that, maybe a big forward but clubs don't let them go easily. "
- Lance Finney
"Pt 1. Peter. Laycock, Dyson and H.Slattery for sure. With McVeigh getting another 2yrs (I think 1 at most) and that Welsh is VC at the vote of the players they will stay but not in the preferred 22. ANY player not wanting to stay can also go but with a new coach on the way I would like to think that won't happen. Can afford to trade agresivly so maybe 1 or 2 that you wouldn't normally offer up could be on the list to maybe go. I think with the eception of a select few, everyone is tradable AT THE RIGHT PRICE."
- Lance Finney
"HOW ABOUT EVERYONE GO OUT AND BUY THE INSIDE FOOTBALL MAGAZINE AS THE ARTICLE BY ROBERT SHAW CONCERNING THE REASONS KNIGHTS FELL IS VERY INTERESTING AND A GREAT READ.WELL DONE SHAW SHOT."
- Karen Arthur
"I thought Leigh Matthews comments about a coach being better the second time around at another club, were good, if thats the case than Choco should be in line for three more if he goes the same way as Matthews. "
- christine wade
"coach gone, next one will have to be a very thoughtful decision. Paying out $800,000 reportedly , to the board dont have the temerity to hit members more in 2011 after that. Several have to be moved on, I previously suggested going after Trent West from the Cats, big strong just cant stay in the great cats side with their present talls, great foil to Hille, let Ryder run free. Let Laycock go. Good sides have good rucks.
Ron Fauvel Melbourne.
"
- Ronald Fauvel
"Lance I would interested to hear Your HIT LIST Who do You think will go from the list and what do We need to top up"
- peter marnham
"I hope they read the forums. Choco Williams will cause division from the feedback that has been posted. Sounds like a done deal though. A seasoned coach is wise with our young list. Dean Laidley I think is a winner. Chris Scott, that is one tough hombre. I would be happy, but another youngish coach is going to cop the same grief. I hope that they listen to member majority and not certain high profile groups. "
- Brad Scarr
"I'm sure every one on this site respects the thoughts of Leigh Mathews, read what his thoughts are regarding whom he thinks should be looked at, i for one agree with him. "
- patrick dimech
"Bomber Thompson has more loyalty to Geelong than EFC had for Knights so as a result unfortantly Bomber I would think is off limits for next year unless Geelong have already made up their minds that Sandurson will be and ready to be Geelongs next coach. Otherwise ROOS,ROOS,ROOS,ROOS,ROOS,ROOS,ROOS,ROOS,ROOS,ROOS. I think Roos would enjoy coaching our group of kids as oppossed to Sydneys older list given they 'carn't' bottom out to keep the crowds up. "
- Lance Finney
"Peter the more i think about it the more it makes sense, Bomber by name and back were he belongs, but the thought of Chris scott is only a wild card as you say, but yuk, that is simply not an option it would be completely repugnant to this ol fan, bloody hell mate he was the hated enemy, he played for (gasp) Brisbane (up were we live) and that my son is my pet hate, like cheering for a drug cheat at the olympics."
- Max Rodwell
"Peter you continue to say all the right things, i congratulate on your ability to say all the things i have pondered for quite a while, you seem to be in touch with the modern game, unlike yours truly who the game passed by, the game continues to evolve and it's hard for old buggers like me to keep pace with it, oh don't get me wrong i firmly believe it's the greatest game of all, and have never faultered in that belief, but back in my day you played the whole game, then drank a few coldies on the way home, and if you got in a fight, my dad used to say win em or wear em."
- Max Rodwell
"Lance Finney Agree with all Your Comments But have some faith in David Evans. This Guy is a Red and Black Man.He has only been there in the Leader Role since Dec 09 and have a look at what He has got going behind the scenes and the people who have gone.Well done I say because this Club was in damage control both on and off the field.I have a lot of faith in him so lets sit back and enjoy the ride"
- peter marnham
"We Can All see it coming with Knights when we got beaten by west Coast in Round 16 my mum said why don't they sack Knights and it came true "
- MARK JONES
"I congratulate David Evans on making the hard but needed decision, now please don't make the same mistakes. I can't see Choco being coach although could work as Assistant. What's wrong with giving the job to Neil Daniher or Dean Laidley. It is going to take us a while to climb the ladder again but with the right people and a few trades we can do it."
- Karen Arthur
"Max The other thing to look for here is when the Club is going to make an announcement. If its deferred to Late September it will I think involve Thompson but if they want to announce within the next week or so then it wont be Bomber"
- peter marnham
"Max My absolute wild card choice would be Chris Scott"
- peter marnham
"Max The other thing to Consider is the secret message in David Evans letter was a "5 Year Plan"
I dont think a Williams Roos or Leigh Matthews would be considered in a 5 year plan"
- peter marnham
"Max I am basing My preference of Mark Thompson on the fact that He is nearing the time of having to develope another Cats side in the next Year or So and He may as well develop one here (thats where his heart is)and someone had a chat to him about 8 weeks ago."
- peter marnham
"If EVERY coach going around was available, would you still be of the beleif that Williams is the RIGHT man for the job???? IMO no, hence the reason why I think the timing of the sacking was all wrong. 9 current coaches are out of contract at the end of next year and thats why I think we should of kept Knights for 1 more year and in the mean time go and get whoever is THE BEST COACH. We did this last time and look what happened!"
- Lance Finney
"Hi Max My Opinion is based on the fact of two things
(1) A young Developing side should have an expienced Coach. An older side can get away with an upcoming coach
(2) A Coach that can develop a plan for his Team and not to develop a team for his plan.
With this in mind I think Bomber Thompson is the only one to go after. If He is not available I would throw in Leigh Matthews or Mark Harvey
Forget the Rest but then have some experienced assistants with a further plan,
Dont forget it was Williams that advised Burgoyne not to consider EFC so why consider him "
- peter marnham
"Good choices Doris. Also agree with RyanO that Boris (Darren Bewick) would be a good choice. His mates have done well, i.e Bomber T, Damian H and Mark H. "
- Jeanette Jennings
"Still reckon Boris would be a good pick for coach or maybe assistant. Caller on radio last week said Knights would be gone end of week and Williams a definite for coach. Shall see if he gets second half of his rumour correct "
- Ryan O'Connor
"Lets hope the Board get it right this time and appoint the right coach, Mark Williams for me, he has a great record. Why take another punt on an assistant, didnt work last time. "
- christine wade
"Memo EFC Board etc..........have a good look at Chris Scott. Is currently an assistant with a top six side, hasn't been out of the game too many years, is a triple premiership player this decade, played under Mathews and is a defender. I just think Mark Williams is a bit passed it and the reason why Port Adelaide dumped him."
- Michael Power
"Mark Hickleton, thank you for your observations. I have said my piece regarding this affair and don't wish to say any more. I am trying to move on. To wit, I have looked into Mark Williams' career and see that he has a very impressive CV. So, I see why many are touting him as the most suitable replacement coach. Good luck to the board as they conduct their search. I will hope for a man with dignity, courage and a bit of the feisty in him :) "
- Angeline Baron
"I didn't like the non defensive, handball and attack at all costs game that MK seemed to try to instill in his charges as the skill level and experience was sadly lacking. For all that what has been gained by sacking the coach with no clear plan or person in mind for the future? And who do you all think will be paying the reported $800,000 termination payment? Loyal members I suspect we will see more than a cost of living rise in our fees next year."
- Michael Rance
"I wish the media Would leave the Players alone as its hard 4 Me 2 Get photos of the Players "
- MARK JONES
"Neale Daniher, Terry Daniher & Dean Wallis as replacements for 3 who have gone. Forward, Back & Game Plan together with a Mentality Expert will reverse the slide."
- Doris Flanagan
"There are a few including the club, who have suggested Mark williams could be an option, may i remind my fellow supporters, that Mark Williams is also a failure at Port, Why on earth would we recruit another flop, this is one that this old fan would avoid like the plague, we have people of our own that could fill this void, we have the list we have the board, all we need is the passion of red and black, Gary O'Donnell sits in the box what about him, Mark Williams Yuk, i'd rather see Peter Marnham, suggestions please!"
- Max Rodwell
"BRING ON MARK WILLIAMS 100 PERCENT "
- MARK JONES
"Mark Hickleton Spot on and very well said.Couldnt have said it better"
- peter marnham
"Well done to Shannon and Team What a turn around for the Season.Although Going Down Yesterday the injury list and team selection didnt help the cause."
- peter marnham
"In fairness to Knights he never had the right mix of players(even with a full squad) to make an impact on the top 8.On the other hand his emphasis on handball caused untold costly turnovers.Towards the end he was forced to blood new players and experiment with players in different positions and some good will come out of this. The club will need to not only find the right coach, but some key position players who can be relied upon to contribute consistently...until then, next season will be much the same as this.Let's hope the wise men of Essendon don't make the same mistake twice!"
- Noel Paech
"I hope David Evans and the board are comfortable with their decision to sack Knights after extending his contract, and comming out in the media backing him. What a back flip. I think that there needs to be a bit of a clean out not just the senior coach. I'll think of that when board elections come around again. Also some of our players need to be a bit more accountable. I hope we don't go for other clubs cast off coaches."
- Ray Aquilina
"With our current list it will be at least 2 to 3 years before they develop to their full potential with stronger bodies, and cohesion as a playing group. The new coach will have the same challenges as Knights. He will need excellent assistant coaches around him as Sheeds has mentioned as imperitive. With Knights and 2 assistants gone we are a long way from a new chum building mutual respect, and getting to understand all positives of all in the playing group.Go Bombers, I will hang on for a hairy ride in 2011"
- W.Graeme Coad
"The true worth of a coach is his ability to identify weaknesses in his own team and correct them; his ability to identify weaknesses in the opposition and exploit them. It’s his ability to identify strengths in his own team and capitalise on them and his ability to identify strengths in the opposition and nullify them. He must also develop a list that delivers sustained acceptable performance that together with a game plan evolves as the game evolves. From this his ability is then judged, results are driven and hope is installed in the supporters."
- Mark Hickleton
"Essendon must set up a coaching, selection panel consisting of some well credentialed and respected, external "football people". Don't laugh, but the Essendon hater, Robert Walls helped to select Ross Lyons for St.Kilda and Clarko for the Hawks. They have been successful coaches. Walls must know something. We can't waste the opportunity to go after the best available. Don't rush, take time and think the whole process through. There is too much at stake and we don't want to get it wrong again as we need a senior coach and at least two assist coaches. A big job for this panel."
- Robert Murray
"The next coach doesnt need to be an ex player - but it may help appease some. Surely its about ability , results, vision, able to install hope in supporters, develop young players, get the most out of the older guys etc. No point in selecting an ex player who doesnt have these attributes!"
- GEOFF FARNELL
"The essendon board has moved to correct their mistake at a heavy cost, please don't make the same mistake by appointing any of our current assistant coaches especially Alan Richardson in my opinion a good appointment would be Mark Williams (coach) and Neale Daniher as his assistant."
- Russell Sleep
"Angeline, I respect your passionate views but I would've thought your time in the Army would've bequeathed you some semblance of reality? Knights was told publicly (and I'd suggest privately) that his position wasn't guaranteed. No deception there. But you're right, many were in the know about his sacking before it happened; about 30,000 supporters! I was disappointed in Knights' statements where he tried to place the onus on the board (and paint them into a corner) to retain him by questioning their loyalty and support. I wonder if Lloyd and Lucas have an opinion on Knights' own platform of loyalty and support?"
- Mark Hickleton
"To the apologists for Knights who supported the notion of an inexperienced coach? Ask yourself if you, in your own workplace, are still considered inexperienced after 3 years? What allowances are afforded you after 3 years if your performance goes backwards and you cannot show any discernible signs of progressing? I'd suggest you'd suffer the same inevitable fate as Knights, and rightly so."
- Mark Hickleton
"Knights was a victim of his own inability to develop a game plan that could evolve with both the changing landscape of football as a whole and on game day. The one dimensional game plan only shows a lack of ability to implement a defensive side to the team. As spectators we all bemoan one-sided Grand Finals except one group; the winning team (and their supporters). Interesting to note that in the past 30 years, 23 teams have scored over 100 points whilst only 1 losing team has. My point; defence wins grand finals. "
- Mark Hickleton
"A little bit of saving face from the Board me thinks........this was the decision that had to happen!, Perhaps, one way or the other, the board should have taken this track earlier, right or wrong, it may have averted the division within the ranks both club and members??. Onward and upward from here, but no stop gap measures PLEASE"
- Lindsay Hickman
"Pt4- AND GET THIS IT MUST BE A EX ESSENDON PERSON IDEA OUT OF YOUR HEADS. I don't give a toss where their from as long as they are the BEST coach money can buy."
- Lance Finney
"Pt3- I also would of liked to think EFC would of stood behind their contracts weather they were good ones or not. IMO EFC would of been better off to say, we are standing behind our contract to Knights (but say changes need to be made)because thats what sucsessful clubs do but behind the seens identify who they want to coach and sign them up for 2013 or 2012 if possible. We have to pay Knights out anyway so why not keep him just untill we find the RIGHT bloke not just whoever is around. "
- Lance Finney
"Pt2- Look at what Eddie did, he seen Malthouse as the coach he wanted so he went and got his man. Twice now we have sacked our coach without having 'the right man' lined up to take it over. EFC was in a position with Sheeds to find who they wanted well before they cut Sheeds and get him signed up but didn't. IMO EFC would of been better off to let Knights coach for at least 2011 if for no other reason to give them time to identify who of ALL the coaches out there they want and then be able to get them to the club (in regard to their current contract length)."
- Lance Finney
"Pt 1- Agree with alot of what you said Greg. I was critical of EFC for the way the decided not to give Sheedy a contract mid year and did not have someone lined up to take the job on so they had to get what they thought was the best bloke at the time, not the sort of way I would expect EFC to conduct a new coach apointment. Your very right Greg, we are going to go down the same path again as like last time there was not much around worth having. "
- Lance Finney
"I would also say that why not appoint Lloyd to train the forwards up at least we know he is proven. I think we need a good clean out too. I am not saying that Neagle is no good but unless he can mature a bit, lose some kilo's and get some toughness into him then he will never be the player we expected. We have some good new ones cvoming through and also the improvement in Jetta is something to look forward to. I don't think Davies is the same after his injuries and I think we need to get some discipline banged into Reimers as he could be a fantastic player if he reined himself in a bit."
- Karen Arthur
"Actually, it wasn't the bloodbath of the past few weeks...
Well done boys...this has been a tough, loooonnng season...a season to remember and say to each other...'We cannot accept again...from this day we take a stand and to wear the Bomber jumper with pride.
The Essendon Board has made its move...it's now time for us all to come together again as a great Club.
Let us hope that this time the Board get it right...after all it is OUR Club...and we all want success.
Lets look within our playing ranks of the past few years...we had the talent on the field...some of those guys are ready to put their hand up.
Sean Wellman...is your hand up?
'Good Luck' to the Board...we will be watching you."
- Terry Wescombe
"I suuported Knights when he was coach as I'll support the next coach. But action was required and I thought the timing of his dismissal (day after last day of season) was appropriate. It conveys strength of purpose and bold leadership from Evans He understands the dangers of divisions in the club and the need to redirect us all towards a single vision aimed at continued success. An impressive beginning but much more is necessary."
- Jeff Forster
"The financials should be irrelevant. Whatever the payout, it is deserved with what he went through and what he can now do with emplyment in football. I just hope the powerbrokers out there can give us a better option / solution for a coach moving forward. Williams will create the same division, - one of the very limited cantidates. The coaching decisions now have to be a hell of a lot smarter than the past few."
- Brad Scarr
"OK Bombers Fans we got what we wanted
now Lets be smart How About we Bring Backs Sheedy"
- MARK JONES
"Well done EFC now we can look forward to a brighter 2011. The team and their supporters will look alot happier now. I love you forever."
- mary De Iesi
"On Sunday 29/8/2010 @5.30 pm Coach Matthew Knights Got the Sack From the EFC Next Year he Will not be Sitting in the Box in round 1 of 2011
"
- MARK JONES
"Max, I have spent time in the army. I know what you are trying to say. However, I am devastated that our club would conduct themselves as they have today. Appalling, and, for what it is worth, absolutely unnecessary. Why tell Matthew he had the support of his Club when he clearly did not? It appears that many were in the know about this sacking long before the axe fell. Deception. That is what this was. I am loyal, but to what have I given my loyalty? A bunch of smiling assassins, it seems. Matthew, I am so sorry. You deserve so much better than this. "
- Angeline Baron
"Glad MK has gone , now let us make the right decision to take us back to the proud club that we were."
- Russell Sleep
"looking forward to a great 2011 season.good decision from the essendon board.'GO BOMBERS'... "
- Jim Giovinazzo
"Well Sack of the Coach we not going to win Games Next Year Yeap Bottom here we come "
- MARK JONES
"Lance the difference is Whoosha got them a flag. He can afford to go down and come up again?"
- David Husk
"Thanks Max "
- peter marnham
"They haven't been printing my comments lately, but it seems they have been reading them, it's finally happened! Now let's get a captain who can lead!! Is Gary O'Donnell available for the coaching job ?"
- Sam La Rocca
"interesting he has gone but they have a press conference and cant explain what they want next. SMACKS a bit of the last change of coach and last appointment. nO knights fan at all but no point getting rid of him without a clear plan of what they want next and i dont see this. Will be tough for any new coach as list not real strong. need someone used to success and with a plan that suits the team - which is a mix of talls and some pace. eg move ball quickly to the tall forwards. Anyway lets see what they have in plan, but we all need to be patient, we are 4 years from any real strength"
- Greg Catterall
"As an Essendon supporter, I was never a fan of Matthew Knights but to give the job to Williams would be a disaster! Why would the Bombers want to go from one loser to another? Look for a good coach and or an ex Essendon player. Move forward Bombers not backwards!"
- Don Greer
"Heard today some interesting stats! West coast have lost the most games in AFL since 2008 (same time as Knights has been coach at EFC). West coast won this years wooden spoon and was second last in 2009 (we made finals in 2009). All this with the same coach and yet do we hear WA people calling for the coaches head? No, because their supporters can see into the future unlike ours."
- Lance Finney
"Don't care who coaches us next year, we won't make the finals or if we do it will only be to make up numbers. This is a good group but it is a young group (2nd youngest in AFL), its a group that needs time. This groups time will be in about 2013/2014 not 2011, still to young but I am excited about what I see looking towards 2013."
- Lance Finney
"Are the Essendon Football Club board controlled by the media? It would appear so. In my opinion Knights deserved to be given a fair go. We lost Lloyed, Lucas, McPhee.... and you expect what? Top four? I thought the club was about loyalty and commitment... mmmmm!! Sorry Knights... this member wanted you to stay and be given a fair go to build a team.. over a realistic period. I liked your game plan and good luck and the next club."
- Beverly Owen
"My bloody oath it's true Doris, the axe has fallen, we now need a new coach, maybe we could look at Peter Marnham, he seems to know the game as well as M.K and reading his thoughts for the last couple of years, he sure as hell makes a lot of sense."
- Max Rodwell
"knight,s has been sacked."
- Jim Giovinazzo
"To Angeline Baron, love i hear what you say regarding M.K, but if an officer in the army made as many strange decisions as our leader the would most likely be court martialed you don't use infantry to drive tanks, you don't use medics as gunners, you us your specialist in specialist possitions, when all our people were in the right possitions we played good footy, when they were put in possition foreign to them they played rubbish, and or sent to Bendigo, but life must go on, and now we have a new problem, who will take over?"
- Max Rodwell
"Yes Doris IT IS TRUE...........It was swift, it was fast and it was fantastic, I hope the board has learnt the lesson of appointing a person who has not been involed with a succesful club either as player or coach. The question is who will it be, who would you as memebers / supporters like to see appointed. "
- Anthony Robinson
"We called it!!!..............and it seems at seasons end, it was SWIFT!!!!"
- Lindsay Hickman
"yes... the decision had to be made! like in business these hard decisions need to be made. If people are under performing and not getting the best out of people then it's a no brainier. I hope we have a good look around for replacement coach but more important strong and qualified assistants!
"
- Steve Burke
"Well as I type this, news has come through that the EFC Board sacked Knights today. An emergency meeting at 8.00am didn't hesitate to show him the door. Who now? How long will it take for the players to learn a new game plan? I reckon Essendon will have a new coach before a decision is made as to who is going to be the next Prime Minister of Australia."
- Robert Murray
"Considering who was missing, and who we lost early, i thought we performed fairly well, but it also appears we have unearthed another star in the making, and i refer to young Jake Carlisle, bloody hell Matty Lloyd didn't do as well when he started, i have touted Leroy Jetta ever since we got him, and now it seems it's not only me that likes him, just heard the news of the demise of our coach, Peter Marnham as usual spot on with your call, the sponsors have spoken, the club has listened, wouldn't listen to us but our contribution is far less than our major sponsors, but honestly i hope we can avoid the other loser from port, no name needed."
- Max Rodwell
"JUST heard the news- KNIGHTS gone- not sure right or wrong but understand the Board had no choice. We would have gone nowhere financially- Hope Mr. Evans is contacting James with a back up of Laidley and Williams as assistants- And what about Leigh Mathews part Time as mentor for James ?????
Go Bombers always with you"
- Rhonda Sansom
"on radio yesterday brain taylor said before he came to essendon we were 15'TH IN THE AFL FOR KICKING GOALS FROM SET SHOTS he then said he now has us at number 2 if this is right the other 14 teams must be hopeless"
- Norman Barr
"According to radio SEN - Knights is gone - sacked!"
- Denise Daniels
"IS IT TRUE???????"
- Doris Flanagan
"IS IT TRUE???????"
- Doris Flanagan
"What an interesting last game. Jetta showing us how it can be done. Hocking up forward kicking very accomplished goals. Myers all over the place and we had more scoring shots - proves there is loght at the end of the tunnel. Glad it is over for 2010. The youngsters need to work hard over the summer and develop bigger bodies and motivated minds. Go Bombers! I still feel a new coach would help our chances but whatever happens I'll be there in 2011 cheering on the red and black!"
- Gai Williams
"Season 2010 is over at last. Can this list ever play finals? Are we realistically 3 to 5 years away? Too many similar, outside midsize players. Too much reliance on too few. No real options if key players get injured. Too inconsistent. Dodgy goal kicking from us while the opposition seem to kick them from anywhere. At times this season we played like witches hats in white shorts. Can we go into 2011 with the same group, the same structure and the same game plan and expect different results? "
- stewart brown
"All I can say....I have never been so embarrased to what was witnessed last night as a supporter! For all you supporters who were booing and swearing at Knights as he made his way to the ground including kids, please go support another club, I bet you were same with Sheeds! ONE WORD...DISGRACEFUL!!!"
- Donna McLaughlin
"pointless making any comments until 12 noon tommorow.we will all know then which way the club is going."
- Frank Craven
"One can only hope for more joy next year. If Matthew Knights stays I hope he will be able to get a better result than this year. Whatever happens I will always be a member of the red and black"
- Myrna Hawkett
"I thought the banner was a relevant message to all last night. It would be awesome to exceed membership again next year, I cannot see it, but at least it will be genuine. A home game (I know it was away last night) is meant to be a 4 goal advantage? That means we make the effort to get there - the red and black army. The players arent playing for Knights - rubbish! Take a look at yourselves! I will again do the hours of travel to games next year as there are games like last night that make it all worth it. Armchair experts everywhere unfortunately. Go Bombers - I love our team! "
- Brad Scarr

This team shows promise and I personally hope that it can rise to the top in 2011, All the best!"
- Lindsay Hickman
"Ahh the last hoorah for 2010,i'm glad to see that this year is at an end. Now for a big pre season during this long hot summer, hoping that this mighty club bounces back up just like flubber. To all supporters of the EFC wishing you all well for xmas and new year, and cant wait to see what 2011 will be . Cheers all."

"It has been a difficult, sometimes heart-breaking year, fellow supporters, but, as always, there were some magnificent moments when we saw just how good we can be. The Club has had to battle its demons, face a sometimes savage public and find its centre. I like what has emerged from the fire of 2010: a young, exciting group with talent and enthusiasm, who will, no doubt, play premiership football in the not-too-distant future. Thank you, EFC, for all your efforts this year. I appreciate what you have given me in terms of entertainment and inspiration. Good luck in 2011. Angie x"

"As regards our coach, it would be a mistake to let Matthew Knights go. Far beyond the issues surrounding performance, selections and game plans, the decision to sack a coach mid-contract reeks of injustice and disloyalty on the part of those in a position to cull him. Knights has brought some very green players up to an impressive standard, shows that he possesses fine leadershop qualities and displayed courage and integrity. For which of these attributes should he be punished? I believe his dedication and persistence will pay off if we can suspend disbelief long enough to let him do his job. "

"Ryder looked off his game, but leapt like a gazelle. I'll forgive him anything, just to see him fly like that."
- Angeline Baron
"Seniors, such as Hille and Winderlich, looked injured, but tried hard. We could not ask more from them. Other stepped up well: Hocking, Prismall, Stanton, Jetta, Monfries, Lonergan, Dempsey (nice hair cut). Slattery, Hurley, Hooker all put pressure on the Dogs' forward line, much to their credit. Reimers came to play, but far too politely; an attempt to curb his passion, no doubt. I would much rather see him spitting fire. If you've got a spirited stallion in your paddock, you shouldn't try to put a harness on him. Reimers will do great things if he is allowed to be himself. "

"The Bombers displayed spirit from the first bounce, which continued throughout the match. They fought courageously, showed aggression and determination. There was still hesitation and indecision, however the increase in Bomber grit and hunger served to deny the Dogs the day out they had hoped for. I was satisfied that we gave our all this game and produced the best football we are presently capable of against a top four side. The young bloods were particularly good: Hardingham, Marigliani, Howlett, Colyer, Melksham, Carlisle, Myers, Crameri. These men should be proud tonight. "
- Angeline Baron
"Perhaps the Dons have at last found a centerman in Jetta..he looked at home in that position and showed signs of class. If it wasn't for so many elementary errors and bad player decisions, then the the Dogs may not have won.The defense were a little more cohesive, but the forward line lacked coordination.Overuse of handball resulted in many turnovers and I hope this will be eliminated next season."
- Noel Paech
"Cheers to Fletch, Spike and Welshy for being so nice to the kids - and me (forgot the texta!) Really enjoyed the game, alot of good signs and well coached with a young, light, and raw team we had out there. The supporters tonight would be satisfied and alot of em proud."

"Thank Goodness The Season it Over so Disappointing
Year seven wins and Fifteen Loses finished 14th
my word why do we All ways Kick Point 's in Game 's"
- MARK JONES
"A disappointing end to a very ordinary season. A change in coach is down to who is available. the downside is can we afford not to change? attendances have been down, how does that translate to memberships in 2011? A double edged sword if ever thee was one, sadly. "
- Roger Morris
"All very well to say "undermanned", what about the weeks when we were almost full strength losing by big margins & weaker teams. The review has many questions to answer, hopefully all boxes are ticked. "
- Doris Flanagan
"Sad to realise we've gotta wait till next year to see the red an black out there playing again. Hava good 'mad monday'guys - drown your sorrows, hava great holiday and come back'ón fire'next year!"
- Denise Daniels

FINALLY MY FINAL B.O.G. FOR '10 GOES TO,;:

"
- Shaun Cahill
"A dissappointing season. Yes, we have a young side and are still rebuilding, but can't help wondering why the decision making, on and off the field, is so poor. When Monfries is our top goal kicker one wonders why Lloydy wasn't allowed another year? Recruit well Bombers and let's look forward to 2011."
