Selection 10 - Joe Daniher (Calder Cannons, Vic) (Father/Son selection)

Height: 201cm

Weight: 90kg

Date of birth: 04/03/1994

A mobile left footer Joe is a great overhead mark and accurate set shot. Signed under the Father/Son rule to Essendon where Dad Anthony played 118 games. Joe was named in the Under 18 All Australian tam and was an AIS-AFL Academy graduate. He has been training with the Bombers since it was announced he would join the club under the Father/Son rule.

Adrian Dodoro says:

It's great to finally get him on the list. It's taken a while – it feels like he's been on the list for the last two years. But he's an amazing young man, a great talent. It's quite rare the way he draws the ball for a tall. We think he's going to have a great future with us for a number of years.

Selection 34 - Jason Ashby (Oakliegh Chargers, Vic)

Height: 185cm

Weight: 77kg

Date of birth: 16/04/1994

A hard running defender who links up well providing terrific rebound out of defence. He is a smart decision maker with and without the ball, showing himself to be sound overhead and a quality defensive spoiler. Averaged 18.2 disposals in nine TAC Cup matches this year at 70.7 percent efficiency.

Adrian Dodoro says:

He was a guy who we rated highly and he ended up falling through to us. He's a very consistent young man. I spoke to him early today and the thing that strikes you about him is that he's a very impressive person. He's very mature and he'll get the very, very best out of himself. He's got a huge engine and we think he'll develop into a quality midfielder. Our hope is that he'll eventually run through the midfield with Dyson Heppell, David Zaharakis and these kids of guys. He's got leadership qualities as well.

Selection 51 - Dylan Van Unen (Frankston, Vic)

Date of birth: 22/06/1990

Van Unen is a tall defender with good leap who can read the play well across the back half of the ground. A mature aged player he makes good decisions across the last line of defence with a cool head.

Adrian Dodoro says:

We've just sat on this guy all year and we think he'll be ready to play league football next year. His form in the VFL competition has been very good – probably underrated because Frankston haven't had a great year in terms of wins of the board. He's a flexible-type defender, he's very, very quick, and his agility is really good – he can play tall and small. We really wanted to strengthen our back end up and that's why we targeted him. We really happy to have him, for sure.

Selection 53 - Martin Gleeson (North Ballarat)

Height: 186cm

Weight: 69kg

Date of birth: 25/08/94

A hard running, composed defender/wingman he has speed and good endurance. Gleeson uses the ball well by both hand and foot. A good decision maker and moves well across the groud.

Adrian Dodoro says:

A kid from Warrnambool but played for North Ballarat. He'll take some time. He's not a big boy, in terms of size, we think he will develop really well. He's a solid competitor with great skills and they're the things that stood out when we watched him.

Selection 73 - Nick Kommer (East Perth)

28/09/1990

A tough on baller Kommer who hunts the ball Kommer also boasts a strong tackle and can win his own ball.

Adrian Dodoro says:

He's a 22-year-old and he had a terrific back end of the year in the WAFL. He's a hard, competitive player. He came and trained with us over the last couple of weeks and he impressed all of us. So we think he's a young man who can come in and play AFL footy next year.

Selection 88 - Sean Gregory (Calder Cannons)

Height: 195cm

Weight: 76kgs

Date of birth: 20/06/1994

A tall defender with massive upside physically. Has some of Dustin Fletchers traits with ability to play on tall or small opponents.

Adrian Dodoro says:

He's raw and he's very, very light, but he's got a lot of X-factor. People are going to say that he's a Dustin Fletcher clone. He's almost 200cm and he does some incredible things. But he is under-developed and Essendon fans are going to have to be a little bit patient with this guy. However, we think he is a very talented and exciting player. He has an uncanny ability to spoil, which is unusual for a young tall defender. And he's got amazing agility. He's very, very good at ground level. He just needs a body, and that's going to be our responsibility to get him a lot stronger.

Selection 101 - Pass

Selection 106 - Mark Baguley - promoted rookie.
