Essendon ruckman David Hille has resumed training with the team after returning home from overseas late last night.

Hille, who has been in France for the last two weeks, said he was excited to be back training with his teammates.

“I spent a couple of weeks over there with my family for a family commitment, I had a great time, kept up my training and I’m fit and ready to come back,” Hille said.

“I have had an ongoing dialogue with James and the rest of the coaching staff and it has always been something where we have been trying to manage my load for this year.”

“The situation arose where I got the chance to get away for a couple of weeks and freshen up and get ready to go for the second half of the year”

The 31-year-old big man said the trip provided an opportunity to refresh his mind and body ahead of the second half of the home and away season.

“I went to some interesting gyms but it was good fun and I was running on rugby fields more than AFL fields over there but it was good,” he said.

“It was good to mentally freshen up as well as physically.”

Hille said he was unlikely to line up this weekend as he regained match fitness before pushing for selection in Round 11.

“It is unlikely this week I would have thought,” he said.

“I will probably ease back into training this week and probably play the following week and for the rest of the season.”
