Essendon Football Club has elevated rookie Lauchlan Dalgleish to the senior list for the remainder of the season in place of Marty Gleeson who has been placed on the long-term injury list.

Dalgleish was recruited to the club’s rookie list from North Ballarat U18 in the 2012 rookie draft.

Gleeson has been placed on the long term injury list after undergoing season ending shoulder surgery a fortnight ago.

Dalgleish is a 20-year-old left footer with pace to burn and his poise over the last few weeks at VFL level has seen him consistently named in the best players.

Football Operations Manager Steve Alessio said it was exciting news for Dalgleish.

“Lachie is a speedy half back who has played some very consistent football over the second half of the season at VFL level,” Alessio said.

“After being on our rookie list for two seasons it is really exciting to see him given the opportunity of being elevated to the senior list.”

Dalgleish is likely to be named in the Bombers team to take on North Melbourne with the club losing Jason Winderlich and Courtenay Dempsey in recent weeks through injury.

He is the second rookie to be elevated to the senior list this season after Cory Dell’Olio was elevated under the mid season rookie rule.
