Essendon Football Club is excited to announce former Geelong Falcons captain Alex Hickey has signed on to play with the club’s VFL team for 2014.

The 18-year-old missed selection in the national draft after winning the Falcons best and fairest award.

VFL Operations Manager Matthew Little said Hickey would be an exciting addition to the team.

“Alex comes to us from the Geelong Falcons were he was captain last season,” Little said.

“He has got terrific endurance, terrific leadership and from the day he came in the door he introduced himself to everyone.

“He is a great kid to have around the club.”

Little said he expected Hickey to continue to develop his game throughout the 2014 season.

“Alex is a half back midfielder, about 180cms tall and roughly 80kgs so he probably needs to put on a bit of size.”

“He has all the makings off a good running half back who can go through the midfield and uses the ball really well.”

Just prior to Christmas the Bombers announced the signing of ten players including Ben Duscher, Aaron Heppell and Josh Mellington.
