Essendon ruckman Tom Bellchambers is eyeing a Round 6 return from injury against Collingwood in the annual ANZAC Day clash.

The 202cm ruckman had successful surgery to repair damaged ligaments in his left ankle on Tuesday afternoon.

Club doctor Bruce Reid said the timeframe for a return to football was around the three-month mark.

“Hopefully he is on the training track at ten weeks, can play at twelve (weeks), it is hard to predict exactly but that would be roughly the time frame,” Club doctor Bruce Reid said.

“He will be in a boot for a few weeks, then he will be in a brace for a few weeks but after two or three weeks we will be mobilizing the ankle in the pool, on a bike before hopefully building up.”

Reid said the surgery to Bellchambers ankle went as well as expected.

“At about day five he had a large amount of blood in the joint and when they went to surgery the ligaments weren’t too bad so they just tidied that up.”

“The surgery was definitely a success, a couple of the ligaments needed tightening up and they tidy up the surface as well.”
