A stunning 31-disposal and four goal display by Essendon midfielder David Zaharakis has been commended by the coaches receiving the top votes in round 13 for the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year award.

The 24-year-old put on a stirring display in Sunday night’s narrow loss to the Demons, almost solely willing the Bombers over the line.

Despite the one-point defeat endured by Essendon, both Mark Thompson and Paul Roos rewarded the hard-running midfielder’s efforts with the 10 votes.

Lynden Dunn’s superb reinvention as a key defender for the Dees has continued, nabbing seven votes off the back of 29 disposals and 11 marks.

While Brendon Goddard, skipper for the night, gathered 31 disposals and booted a goal, also gained seven votes off the coaches.
