Essendon young gun Dyson Heppell has continued his recent good form picking up full votes against Geelong in the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year Award.

A career best 40-possession game, including six marks and seven tackles caught the attention of the coaches to receive the top 10 votes on the night.

Mark Thompson declared that the former top-10 draft pick has the right mindset to be an elite player in the AFL.

“He is just a pro. Everyone would love him if they were working with him,” he said.

“He ticks all the boxes every week, admits the thing he needs to work on and he doesn’t hide or try to cover them up.”

Geelong star Jimmy Bartel rounded out the notable vote getters, awarded eight votes on the back of his 28-disposal performance.

Casting an eye on the overall leader board after Round 15, Heppell’s top votes has seen him skyrocket into 10th place overall on 44 votes, one behind fellow Bomber Brendon Goddard who has 45 votes.
