Essendon's epic three point win over reigning premier and current ladder leader Box Hill on Saturday was one of the best of the season according to midfielder Kurt Aylett.

Box Hill led for the majority of the first half before the Bombers marched ahead to lead by three points into what would be a tense and tight final quarter.

The final quarter went goal-less for 19 minutes before near best on ground Dan Coghlan put one through, quickly followed by another goal from small forward Cory Dell’Olio who finished with three.

“It was a credit to all the boys," Aylett said.

“To beat ladder leader’s Box Hill is just a massive effort and to put in a four quarter effort so we’re absolutely rapt."

Aylett was again one of the better players on the ground and continues to be happy with how his season is progressing; averaging close to 12 tackles a game.

“I haven’t played a lot of inside midfield, so it’s a bit new to me. I’ve more played on the wings and flanks," he said.

“I’ve really had to work on my inside work and my defensive pressure and tackling is something that I really pride myself on.”

VFL listed player Dan Coghlan was best on ground, playing a pivotal role in the midfield all day and kicking a late goal to cap off a brilliant day.

“You know what you’re going to get from Dan, he gave us a real four quarter effort today and he was super.”

Ariel Steinberg was again among the better players on the day, taking a number of intercept marks in defence.

“To his credit, he’s had a really testing time over the last four years at the club," Aylett said on Steinberg.

“He’s working really hard and that’s showing in his form and I hope he gets an opportunity at senior level soon.”

Essendon take on Port Melbourne next Saturday afternoon at North Port Oval and Aylett said that the team will take great belief out of today’s win.
