Essendon big man Jake Carlisle is optimistic of playing again this season despite an injury set back at training on Tuesday.

Carlisle suffered tightness in his hamstring during training and has been ruled out of Saturday’s clash against Carlton.

The 22-year-old remains optimistic he is a chance to line up in the club’s first final series should the team qualify.

“It obviously isn’t good news, probably will only be a week or two but I will try and do everything right and see how I go,” Carlisle said.

“During training yesterday I was a bit sore and went for a ball out a bit far out in front of me then just got tight in the hammy.”

“The icing is crucial in the first 24-48 hours of when it happens.”

Club doctor Bruce Reid said the injury would now be assessed on a week-by-week basis.

“The scans shows there is not a tear but a bit of soreness with no actual bleed or anything like that.”

“We won’t play him this week but we will see how he goes over the next week.”

Carlisle said he was focused on remaining in a positive mind set with the chance to still play again in 2014.

“It is tough but I am just going to stay positive and make sure my mood doesn’t flatten the other boys as well,” he said.

“We have one more game leading into finals so I want to stay positive for myself but the team as well.”

“Three years ago we played Carlton in a final but this year we have earned the right to play finals and the boys are pretty happy about it.”
