Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce Will Hams will remain in the red and black for a further year after agreeing to new terms.

The promising young midfielder has committed to a one-year deal with the club after being drafted in the 2013 AFL Pre-Season Draft.

The 20-year-old was unable to take to the field this year due to a persistent hip injury, but Hams said he would use this as motivation ahead of the 2015 campaign.

“I’m thrilled to be staying at Essendon. They were the club that gave me an opportunity so I want to be able to try and give something back,” Hams said.

“This year was disappointing in terms of my hip injury, but everyone at the club has been incredibly supportive and I am working really hard on getting my body right over the pre-season.

“I’m excited to be back in with the Bombers and look forward to getting stuck in training over the summer at the True Value Solar Centre.”

Senior coach James Hird said it was important to keep people of Ham’s calibre at the club.

“Will is a terrific young kid and we think he has a lot of potential,” Hird said.

“When he played in 2013, he showed that he has a ferocious attack on the ball and strong endurance.  We think he can develop into an important player for the team.”

Hams has played two senior games for Essendon after making his debut against Sydney in Round 10, 2013.
