Ruckman Jonathan Giles has officially joined Essendon after the club completed a trade this morning with Greater Western Sydney in exchange for pick 53.

Giles was initially on Port Adelaide’s list for four years before joining the Giants where he played 51 matches in three seasons.

The 26-year-old has a proven ability to move forward having booted 39 goals during his time with Greater Western Sydney.

List Manager Adrian Dodoro said the acquisition of Giles added important ruck depth to the club’s list.

“The club is very excited that Jonathan has joined us for the next two seasons to add further depth to our ruck stocks,” Dodoro said.

“Jonathan has shown that he is able to compete with the best ruckmen in the competition and we see him forming an important partnership with Tom Bellchambers in the ruck."

The Club will also receive pick 62 from the Giants in the deal.

Giles, who stands 201cm tall, was recruited by Port Adelaide from Central Districts in the 2005 National Draft.
