Essendon Football Club is set to elevate rookie listed forward Patrick Ambrose to the senior list at the National Draft on November 27.

Ambrose was recruited in the 2013 rookie draft going on to play 16 games during his first season after replacing the injured Alex Browne on the long-term injury list.

List manager Adrian Dodoro last week confirmed the club was set to elevate Ambrose after an exciting debut season in the AFL.

The 23-year-old signed a new two-year deal with the club in August that will see him remain in the red and black until the end of the 2016 season.

The Bombers enter the draft with two live selections at pick 17 and 20 with the club’s fourth round pick 62 to be used to elevate Ambrose to the senior list.

It was an impressive debut season in the red sash for the tough forward who became renowned for his defensive pressure and hard attack on the football.

He has become an integral member of the Bombers forward line with his speed, contested ball and forward pressure a highlight.

Forward line coach Nathan Bassett said the strong progress shown by Ambrose during the 2014 season would set him up for further improvement in 2015.

“Patty showed some really good signs for a first year forward particularly in the defensive side of his game,” Basset said.

“To play 16 matches in his first season on an AFL list is a fantastic effort and credit to his work rate.”

“He will be the first to admit that there is a bit of work to do on his offence but he was an important part of our forward pressure throughout the season.”
