Essendon Football Club is pleased to confirm new recruit Adam Cooney will wear the No. 13 guernsey during the 2015 season.

Cooney will wear the number made famous by club champion Michael Long during his 190 matches for the club.

The new recruit confirmed he would move out of the No. 17 he wore during his 219 games at the Bulldogs and into the No. 13.

Cooney made the news formal to his twitter followers on Friday when he changed his official handle to @Adamcooney13.

Young star Zach Merrett will also have a new number for the 2015 season, sharing the news with his twitter followers as he launched his own account @ZachMerrett07.

Merrett will wear the No.7 guernsey next season after spending his debut season in the No. 27.

The No.7 guernsey was recently vacated by Leroy Jetta after he departed the club during the off-season.

It is a famous number for the red and black with club legend Bill Hutchison famously wearing it during his 290 game career at the Bombers.

The club will announce the full list of official guernsey numbers for the 2015 season following the completion of the upcoming drafts.
