Essendon Football Club has awarded life membership to two worthy recipients at Monday night’s Annual General Meeting.

Long serving volunteers of the club, John Shaw and Pat Curico were both awarded life membership in recognition of their dedication and commitment to the club.

A volunteer at the club for 22 years, John Shaw has filled many roles, including the door man on match day.

Truly humbled by the accolade, Shaw spoke passionately about his time working Essendon, and how the memories hold a special place in his life. He also reflected on the many great people, players and staff he’s met along the journey.

"1993 provided me with the most fabulous start at Essendon," Shaw said

"It happened to be the year that Dustin Fletcher started playing for the Bombers, and the two of us are still together 20 years later."

Pat Curcio first came to the club as a videographer 20 years ago, where he spent time filming both AFL and VFL games.

Now in a match day role, Pat said he was thankful for the opportunity to be involved with the club he holds dear to his heart.

“To the staff coaching team, players thank you for giving me the privilege and honour to work with you. The EFC has the best group of people working together, it makes you so proud to be part of this club.” Curico said

“You become so attached that you consider everyone to be a family member.”
