World class triathlete and passionate Bomber supporter, Leon Griffin, stopped by the True Vaule Solar Centre to give the players some valuable advice ahead of tomorrow morning’s triathlon at Williamstown Beach.

The circuit will include an open water swim, a bike race through the streets of the bayside suburb and finish with a run around the local sporting precinct.

“I know the boys aren’t playing for sheep stations, but I also know they’re competitive and racing for bragging rights,” Griffin said.

Griffin tipped Paddy Ambrose as the man to beat, before parting with some priceless time saving tactics.

“I watched the boys out on the training track today and was super impressed by their athleticism. I’m sure once they get through the swim, which a few of them seem apprehensive, they’ll nail the bike and cream the run.”

“The transitions are where you can lose or gain a lot of time. Ten seconds here, twenty seconds there.”

Griffin also gave the team an insight into the personal challenges and dedication required to succeed on the cut throat global triathlon tour.

Currently based in Boulder, Colorado, Griffin admitted a Bomber’s victory made his gruelling altitude training sessions that little bit easier.

“Majority of the time games are played at two or three in the morning, and the first thing I do is roll over when my alarm goes off and check the results.”

“If the Bombers have had a win I’ll load up the highlights straight away and have a look how the game panned out.”

“If the Bombers have won, it puts a spring in my step and it’s been great to keep in touch with how the guys have been travelling.”

“When the career is over I look forward to getting back here and being able to go to a match and take my new little son Harry to watch as well.”

Griffin’s next big race is the Melbourne Ironman on March 22. You can follow his progress through Twitter @grifffo or www.leongriffin.com.au
