Three teams proudly represented the Essendon Football Club at the Unity Cup on Sunday morning in Kensington.

Founded by the club in collaboration with the Australian Federal Police in 2008, the Unity Cup focuses on strengthening multi-cultural community bonds through a shared appreciation of football.

The Bharat Bombers Boys, Bharat Bombers Girls and Sabha Singh Dons all took to the field on the day with some impressive results.

Also on hand to enjoy the celebrations, Kevin Sheedy spoke about the importance of football in strengthening the ties between different communities and highlighted the shared responsibility that the entire community has in assisting fostering positive interactions.

“The bridge-building exercises have got to be helped by everybody,” Sheedy said.

“From my point of view, AFL Football is part of the wider community and days like today are very important.”

Essendon has a proud history in encouraging diversity in the game with stars from all backgrounds pulling on the red and black throughout our history.
