Essendon Captain Jobe Watson will play against St Kilda despite suffering a knock in the side’s loss to Collingwood on Anzac Day.

Watson copped a hit to the back against the Magpies and was sent for scans on Monday.

“Jobe is fine.  That was precautionary.  He got a decent knock to the back.  His MRI is clear,” Club Doctor Bruce Reid said.

Paul Chapman was subbed out of the Collingwood game late in the third quarter after hurting his knee.

The former Cat will be monitored throughout the week.

“Chappy got a nasty ‘corky’ just above his knee so he had trouble getting out of three-quarter pace.  We’ll see how he is later in the week.”

One of the few negatives to emerge from the VFL side’s impressive win on Sunday was an injury to Jason Ashby.

He was helped from the field after hurting his knee.

“He actually subluxed, that’s half dislocate your knee cap, in and out,” Dr Reid said.

“He’ll be in doubt this week.  Hopefully (if he misses) he’ll only be one or two weeks.”

Veteran Jason Winderlich is continuing his recovery from a back injury and remains on track for a mid-season return.

“We took a very cautious line with him.  But he’s now settled down and he’s back running fully so he’ll be back in the thick of things probably mid-season.”

Nick Kommer has also spent considerable time on the sideline, but the signs are promising for the 24 year old.

“Nick is actually now joining in drills.  His base will be terrible because of the longevity of the injury.  Hopefully he’ll play in four weeks.”
