Essendon is mourning the loss of former player Jack Simpson.

Simpson was born in 1929 and played six games with the Bombers from 1949-1951.

In 1950, he was a member of the Seconds’ premiership side.

Throughout his time at the club Simpson altered between the ruck position and the forward line.

After struggling to get a regular senior game, Simpson moved to Williamstown where he played in 1952 and 1953.

In 1954, he represented Doutta Stars before signing with Brunswick for the 1955 and 1956 seasons.

Away from the football field, Simpson had a successful political career.

He was the inaugural Member for Niddrie in the Victorian Parliament in 1976.

Six years later when the Labor party won the election, Simpson was appointed the Minister for Public Works and for Property and Sevices in the Cain Government.

He stood down from the Government’s front bench in 1985 before retiring in 1988.
