Essendon’s key forwards have delivered in a crucial win for the side against Brisbane.

Joe Daniher led the way finishing with a career-best six goals.

He was well supported by Jake Carlisle (three goals) and Adam Cooney (three goals).

“It’s all about effort and bringing that week in, week out,” Daniher said.

It was an even start to the match, but the Bombers took control after half time scoring 12 goals to four.

“We had a real focus on our contested pressure and I feel like our small forwards and midfielders provided that,” Daniher said.

The 21 year old took eight marks in the Bombers 58 point win.

A combination of wet weather and slow ball movement has made it difficult for the emerging forward to find his best form so far this season.

But in a pleasing sign the Bombers were able to kick 21 goals against the Lions.

“For me, Paddy Ambrose and Jake Carlisle it’s about continuing to train hard and work together and we’re going to see some better results if we keep doing that.

“Hopefully we keep tracking in the right direction and keep improving.”

Daniher said that work on the training track will remain a focus for he and his teammates heading into another big match this week against Richmond.

“Last week we had a really quality week on the track, so we’re looking to do that again.

“Looking to train hard and bring some good intensity to training and hopefully we can take that into next weekend.”
