Harbir Kang came to Australia from India in 2003.

On Sunday, he along with Amandeep Singh and Charnamat Singh will broadcast the match between Essendon and the Western Bulldogs in Punjabi via the club’s website.

“I’m hoping for a great contest because that’s when everyone really enjoys it and that will come across in the commentary,” Harbir said.

Essendon is committed to growing the game throughout Melbourne’s north-west corridor where a large section Australia’s Indian community reside.

Harbir Kang said learning the nuances of Australian Rules took a little time.

But the physical nature of AFL appeals to Indians, particularly those in the north of the country, where the sport of ‘Kabbadi’ is popular.

“Kabbadi is basically Aussie Rules without the ball,” he said.

“People in the northern part of India are known to be Warriors and strong people, so they can relate to AFL.”

Fans can access the broadcast on the club website on Sunday.
