Essendon is set to start Cale Hooker in defence and Jake Carlisle in the forward line against the Western Bulldogs.

But Bombers Coach James Hird said that may change throughout the course of the game.

“We’ll swap them round a bit and try to create a little bit indecision in the Bulldogs,” Hird said.

“Both of them can play at either end and we’ve sort of found over the last four or five weeks that Cale is an outstanding forward as well as an outstanding back.”

Carlisle has kicked 14 goals in his 11 games this season.

He kicked eight goals against the Bulldogs last year.

In Carlisle’s absence, Hooker has spent the last month alongside Joe Daniher in the forward line.

The All-Australian defender has kicked seven goals and provided a strong marking presence.

“It's a luxury we're pleased we have,” Hird said.
