Despite the disappointing result, there were some solid contributors in Essendon VFL’s loss to Footscray last weekend.

With the AFL side also going down to the Dogs, changes loom ahead of Sunday’s clash against the Giants.

Shaun Edwards

After being left out of the AFL side, Edwards’ performance in the VFL on Sunday was superb. The Coach commended him for his attitude and the enthusiasm he brought back to the VFL Bombers. Edwards picked up 23 classy disposals through the midfield and half forward line. The display showcased his tremendous skill and the former Giant is ready to go should he be called up to take on his old team.

Courtenay Dempsey

Dempsey continued his rich vein of form as a forward on the weekend. It’s the second consecutive week Dempsey has played in attack. He was unstoppable as he racked up 20 disposals, took 10 marks, laid five tackles and booted three goals. Dempsey has now kicked seven goals in the last two weeks alone.

Tayte Pears

A shift back to defence has helped reignite Pears form. The 25-year-old was again in control of the backline on the weekend, collecting 20 disposals. With the GWS forward line consisting of the dangerous Jeremy Cameron and potential inclusion of Jonathan Patton, Pears’ recall could be a handy one. It would be Pears’ first AFL game since 2013.

Paul Chapman

Chapman put in another solid performance in the VFL on the weekend and looks to be on the cusp of AFL selection. The veteran gathered 21 disposals and took six marks in the VFL Dons’ loss to Footscray. Chapman is back to full fitness and showing no signs of a groin complaint that has kept him out of the senior side.

David Myers

Myers played his first full game since recovering from minor knee tendinitis that halted his return from shoulder reconstruction almost a month ago. The super-boot was important as he collected 17 possessions and laid four tackles. The senior head of Myers would be a valuable inclusion to steer the young AFL side home in the remaining five matches of the season.
