Tom Wallis, son of two-time Premiership player Dean, made a successful VFL debut over the weekend.

Wallis came onto the ground early in the first quarter after starting on the bench as the VFL Dons’ 23rd man.

The youngster adapted to the higher standard quite quickly and gathered a total of nine disposals.

“It’s always tough for some guys coming in for their first game and adjusting to the pace of the game,” VFL Co-Coach Paul Corrigan said.

“I thought as the game wore on he really started to build into the game playing as a high half forward and he will be better for the run.”

The 23rd man rule is for players who are currently on a TAC Cup list, or were in previous years, to play up to three games for an affiliate VFL side.

Wallis currently plays with the Calder Cannons this season averaging 16 disposals rotating between midfield and defence.

“Hopefully when he gets another opportunity at VFL level he will adapt to the speed and produce and kick a couple of goals,” Corrigan said.
