Essendon’s coaching staff will give Dustin Fletcher every chance of playing in the side’s final game of the season against Collingwood.

The 40 year old hasn’t played since round nine because of an abdominal problem.

“He’s going to do his best to get up, but he needs to get to a level where he can play,” Interim Senior Coach Matthew Egan said.

“He’s still training, he’s still giving himself every opportunity.

“We’ll weigh it up next week.”

Fletcher became just the third player to reach the 400 game mark against Richmond earlier this season

Since then though he has battled a lingering abdominal problem.

“He has been struggling the last month so it’s going to be hard for him to get up but we want to give him every chance to play,” Egan said.

“I think he deserves that opportunity, he’s been an absolute legend of the game.

“I think it’s important the fans see him again.”
