Working tirelessly from the early hours of the morning well until the close of the day, Jamie Cooper has dedicated the last few months on his latest masterpiece.

Locked away for the last few months in his home studio, Cooper has done the impossible of encapsulating a 23 season, 400 game career of one of veteran defender Dustin Fletcher in one life size painting.

Well known in the industry for his great work, Cooper is also no stranger to the club having produced  the famous ‘Champions of Essendon’ painting.

“I’ve been doing these sorts of portraits for almost 18 years now,” said Cooper

“When an iconic player comes along, it’s something I want to celebrate.

“I paint the iconic players of our game and Dustin certainly fits the bill.”

The painting depicts Fletch on a sunny afternoon the MCG launching one of his famous bombs down the field.

However, with such a long career, Cooper had to make the tough decision as to which moment to encapsulate in the painting.

“With someone like Dustin who has played so long and has so many facets to his game, how do you depict him as a player,” said Cooper

“The spoil is a really famous part of Dustin’s game, and the long kick- the long bomb is also.”

Upon his first glimpse of the painting, Dustin Fletcher was taken aback by the amount of detail and clarity of the picture.

“Just looking at the painting, there’s really good memories,” said Fletch

“It’s a long career and to have something like this in your mind and to be able to hang up in your house.

“I’m pretty honoured.”

Fletch sees the painting for the first time.
