Dustin Fletcher will have to make it through a full week of training if he is to play next week against Collingwood.

The veteran defender has not played since his 400th game in round 9 of this year suffering from an abdominal strain that has restricted his movement.

Speaking after Saturday night’s game, interim coach Matthew Egan was adamant that everything possible would be done to ensure that Fletch was given the chance to play this week.

However, Egan did not want to see the veteran defender come in underprepared with the chance of worsening his injury.

“He is a small chance,” Egan said post match.

“He is going to have to train and play so he doesn’t play on one leg and five minutes in we’re subbing him.

“He’s a champion of the game and we need to do whatever we can to get him up and play.

“He’s a  legend, the fans need to see him again.”

The 400 game champion has had a decorated career over his 23 seasons with the Bombers.

His contribution to not only the club, but also to the game has seen him become a favourite of all fans and a player that all will surely miss.

“We’ve got to get through next week’s training sessions,” Egan said.

“He is one of the legends of the game and deserves to be rewarded for what he has done for the game.”
