Michael Hurley has one more game to seal a spot in the All-Australian side.

The key defender has been one of Essendon’s best players this season and despite missing three games because of a knee complaint, has continued that form over the last fortnight.

“I obviously do my rolling All-Australian side on Channel Nine – I’ve had ‘Hurls’ in for most of the year,” Matthew Lloyd said.

“Missing three games and (Daniel) Talia having a great month, he probably jumped over the top of him.

“But Hurley’s had a great last couple of weeks and I think he’ll be right in the frame.”

Hurley gathered 22 possessions and kept Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt goalless on the weekend.

It was the latest starring performance from the 25 year old who has flourished since finding a permanent home in defence.

“He’s been the equal of Alex Rance as well so between Rance, Talia and Michael Hurley I think they’ll form the defensive spots,” Lloyd said.

“I expect to see him (Hurley) in the side.”

Hurley is averaging 21 possessions and seven marks a game this season.

He also averages nearly six rebounds from the defensive 50 per game to be ranked number two in the AFL.
