John Worsfold has clarified reports that he has been given the Head Coaching role at Essendon.

AFL.com.au yesterday reported that the 2006 West Coast premiership coach had been told by the Bombers that he would be the new coach going forward.

Speaking to Channel 7 last night, Worsfold denied any formal agreement had been made.

“I’m very hopeful and I’ve put my hat into the ring to say I believe I can add some value to the Essendon Football Club and really assist them to get back and achieve some of these things they’re striving to achieve” Worsfold told Channel 7

“If I get the opportunity I’ll be going flat out to do that.”

The selection process is ongoing and a decision on the next senior coach has not been made.
