John Worsfold will travel to Adelaide later today and his mission is clear; bring back some of the best footballing talent in the country.

The National Draft will take place tomorrow night and the Bombers are in an excellent position to secure some promising players.

“Everyone is really excited about it,” Worsfold said.

“The recruiting guys have got a spring in their step and they’re really looking forward to it.

“The draft is critical in terms of building a great team.”

Essendon hold picks 4, 5, 24, 25, 57, 80, 98 and 116 but those picks could change slightly depending on when clubs bid for the Academy players.

Worsfold said the recruits will be given time to find their feet at AFL level.

“These young guys won’t impact immediately,” he said.

“They may play early on, but they won’t necessarily impact the overall team performance immediately.

“If our squad is fit we’ve got a team where we don’t necessarily have to throw guys in straight away.

“But they will be a real bonus for this footy club for the long term future.”

Worsfold is keen to bolster the Dons forward stocks either through the draft or by using the Club’s existing players.

“There has to be a big focus on scoring more,” he said.

“At the moment there is a heavy focus on Joe Daniher, but it would be nice to reel off three or four, maybe even five, guys that you just say that’s our forward line and they’re going to kick winning scores.”
