Embracing India

July 7, 2016 11:41 AM

As part of the AFL’s Multicultural round, Essendon will continue ‘Embracing India’.

With a large Indian community residing in the north-west corridor of Melbourne, the Bombers have played a key role in developing the knowledge and participation in the game.

Through football, the Club is seeking to smoothen the transition into the Australian way of life.

This week Essendon will host a special training session for the region’s young Indian community.  Alex Morgan will hand over the official AFL Multicultural ball to Avtar Singh from the Craigieburn Bombers Auskick centre which was established in 2014 by the Essendon Football Club in conjunction with Football Victoria.

From humble beginnings, the Auskick Centre now boasts six coaches and almost 100 participants.

The Sita Group has kindly donated buses to transport the kids and community members to open training on Saturday and the match on Sunday.

There will also be a distinct Indian flavor on match day this Sunday against St Kilda, with EFC hosting an Indian themed function for invited guests and Indian dancers performing before the game and at half time.

With kids under 15 permitted to the game free of charge, it’s a great opportunity to sample some Indian culture.
