Essendon defender Patrick Ambrose says the team will be trying to eradicate any momentary lapses when they meet Brisbane on Sunday.

The Bombers have been competitive against St Kilda and Richmond over the last two weeks, only to fall narrowly short when the game was up for grabs in the last quarter.

“We’re definitely building.  If you look at our last few weeks – we probably should have won one of our last two,” Ambrose told Sportsday.

“We’ve got another big game this week so I think it just comes down to putting together four quarters with a young team.

“We’ve just had lapses in our game which has hurt us.”

Ambrose said the leadership within the Club had stood up throughout the season, led by Brendon Goddard and John Worsfold.

“His (Goddard) leadership within the four walls is amazing and then on game day,” Ambrose said.

“He’s been huge on driving standards and even having a bit of fun – he’s organised a few activities for the boys when we’ve been a bit flat.

“Woosha is huge on building towards next year and making sure we play every minute of every game, so that’s one of our trademarks that we work towards.”

Defensive Line Coach Mark Harvey initiated Ambrose’s move to defence in the off-season.

Throughout this season he lined up on some of the game’s best forward including Matthew Pavlich and Jack Gunston.

Last Saturday he kept Jack Riewoldt goalless.

Ambrose said the side was hungry to secure at least another win before the end of the season.

“We’re definitely trying to win every week,” Ambrose said.

“I think if we can put together four quarters, we’ll be right in it.”
