Leading Contenders

Nick Kommer:

2016 marked an important step in the right direction for Nick Kommer. In what has been an injury plagued career, Kommer was finally able to make a return to senior football after an astonishing 952-day absence from the game. More affectionately referred to as ‘Kommsy’ around the Club, the 25-year old has remained one of the most important players for the group – continually putting others first, and giving all the boys the support they need.

Orazio Fantasia:

The youngster from South Australia found his place in Essendon’s senior side, cementing himself as one of the most dangerous small forwards in the competition. Aside from his success on field, Fantasia is well known for his willingness to do the extra yards on the track, work with his teammates and also spend plenty of time with the fans.

Michael Hartley:

In only his first year at the Club, Hartley has quickly become one of the most popular players at the Bombers. Always willing to spend time with the fans, the 23-year old has also formed a close relationship with his fellow teammates.

James Kelly:

It feels as though James Kelly has been a Bomber for longer than just one year. The veteran quickly came in and adapted to the Essendon culture, while also sharing the knowledge that he has gained over his successful 14-year journey in football. A positive influence on the entire group, Kelly has helped the team in more ways than one in 2016.
