The Crichton Medal is one of the Club’s most popular nights of the years and gives the team, coaches and fans the chance to celebrate the individual achievements of the playing group.

Aside from the Crichton Medal, there are a number of awards handed out on the night.

THE AWARDS:

Bruce Heymanson – Best Team Player:

The Best Team Player on Crichton Medal night is named after Bruce Heymanson. 

Bruce was an Essendon Life Member, Number One Ticket Holder and member of the Hall of Fame.

The award recognises a player who puts others before himself, lives and breathes Club values and enhances the culture of the Club. 

2015 Winner: Dyson Heppell

Cheer Squad Award:

As voted by our dedicated cheer squad members, the award is presented to the player who they believe goes above and beyond to interact with their own group and the other fans. 

2015 Winner: Cale Hooker

John Kilby Best Clubman Award:

Awarded to the player who best demonstrates the club’s values and goes above and beyond to be inclusive of teammates, coaches, staff and fans. 

Dyson Heppell has previously won the award for the last four years.

2015 Winner: Dyson Heppell

Matthew Lloyd Leading Goal Kicker:

Named after Essendon’s all time leading goal kicker, the Matthew Lloyd award is presented to the player with the highest goal tally at the end of the season. 

Joe Daniher has won the award since 2014. 

2015 Winner: Joe Daniher

Lindsay Griffiths Rising Star Award:

Essendon’s Rising Star award goes to a player who shows an ability to adapt to life in the AFL.  Candidates are judged on their physical and mental resilience as well as their on-field performance.

The winner must also be in his first two years at the Club.

2015 Winner: Zach Merrett

Adam Ramanauskas Most Courageous Player:

The Adam Ramanauskas award for the Most Courageous player is one of most highly coveted awards at the Crichton Medal.

It goes to a player who puts others before himself and displays personal courage on and off the field.

2015 Winner: Mark Baguley

Best Defensive Player:

Introduced in 2014, the award does not always go to a defender – rather, the player who best demonstrates the ability to support their teammates and put pressure on the opposition on the field.

Previous recipients include David Myers and Michael Hurley.

2015 Winner: Michael Hurley

Bill Hutchison Community Award:

The award is named after the legendary Bill Hutchison, whose performance on the field were matched, if not surpassed, by the impeccable character he displayed off it. 

It is awarded to the current player who has successfully combined the demands of professional football with work in our behalf of the community.
