Let’s pretend for a moment the Essendon playing list represented a share market with shares in each individual player able to be purchased.

Who would you buy shares in? That was the question posed to the experts on the Friday Footy Panel.

Scott Lucas said he’d be investing in the Bombers leading goal kicker for the past three seasons, Joe Daniher.

“If you talk about the top 25 players of the last 25 years, who dominates that top half of the list? The key forwards,” Lucas said.

“That’s because they’re a rarity. If you have two good ones in your team, you’re not far off a premiership chance.

“You need ten or 12 midfielders and they can become available.

“The way he’s [Daniher] tracking – I thought his efforts last year in a team where time in possession was significantly down, inside 50’s were down – if he can get some decent supply, his stocks can rise very quickly.”

Essendon’s all-time leading goal kicker Matthew Lloyd had a slightly different take, opting for small forward and the freshly re-signed Orazio Fantasia.

“To do what he did last year – almost 30 goals in a side that won three games,” Lloyd said.

“Just with that pace, like [Anthony] McDonald-Tipungwuti, Fantasia could be a great player off half back.

“He could be great in the forward line, hopefully he can become a great winger/outside midfielder.

“It is great to see he signed during the week as well.”
