Behind the goals

Paul Daffey has launched his latest book, ‘Behind the Goals- The History of the Victorian Country Football League’.

Founded in 1927, the Victorian Country Football League (VCFL) was the governing body for the state’s burgeoning bush football competitions.

Featuring a number of AFL greats including Terry Daniher and Peter KnightsBehind the Goals takes you on a journey from the VCFL’s formation retelling some of country football’s greatest stories.

The book launch was held as part of the celebrations for the Powercor Australia Country Festival ahead of the game between Essendon and Geelong on Saturday May 13.

In conjunction with the Essendon Football Club, the free Country Festival will celebrate our regional communities and the significant contribution they make to the nation through a host of family-friendly activities.

In addition, some of country football’s best senior players will run out on the MCG in a curtain-raiser match for the WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships top-ranked match between Geelong Football Netball League and Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League from 3:15pm.
