Essendon defender Patrick Ambrose says he’s looking forward to developing his attacking game throughout the next phase of his career.

The 25 year old has agreed to a new two-year deal with the Bombers that will see him remain with the Club until at least the end of 2019.

Ambrose has been a revelation since his shift to the backline last year.

His aerobic capacity, fearless approach and discipline have seen the former Essendon VFL listed player excel on medium and key position sized players.

“It was tough playing as the third tall up forward, I think playing down back suits my game a bit more,” he said.

“I’ve got a bit of a starting point with my man and now I’m trying to develop into an attacking backman as well.

“I just want to keep playing around guys like ‘Hurls’, ‘Harts’ and Matt Dea and just developing into a strong backline and see how far we can go.”

Ambrose’s signature follows that of Orazio Fantasia who re-signed earlier this year as the Bombers move to sure up their emerging talent.

“I’m just looking forward to the development of the group, we’ve got some really good young talent and some guys that are at the right age to push for finals,” Ambrose said.

Ambrose has missed the last four matches with a quad injury but he expects to be available for next week’s game against GWS.
