Essendon was the toast of the football world after its round one win over Hawthorn.

Like most of those connected with the Bombers, Cale Hooker spent the day after the game reflecting on what the Club had accomplished.

Years of turmoil came to an end when Essendon, with its full complement of players, ran on to the MCG to take on the Hawks.

Hooker was one of six returning players and finished the night with three goals.

As he iced his weary muscles Hooker relaxed with a bottle of 2016 Hooker Shiraz.

He, with some help from Tom Bellchambers and Angus Monfries returned home to WA to create his own special drop.

The family has owned a vineyard in the Swan Valley (45 minutes north of Perth) for around 15 years.

Hooker’s enforced layoff gave him more time to spend with his family to produce this special wine.

“I really love playing footy and put my all of my energy into that but it is great to have things outside of footy for that balance,” he said.

“I’ve definitely become more interested in this industry as I’ve got a bit older.

“I can see how therapeutic it is to get out here and down the track I’ll be looking to come back home and help the family out a bit.”
