Patrick Ambrose will return to the field in the VFL against Casey Demons for the first time since injuring his quad at training in April.

At 25 and with 55 AFL games under his belt, Ambrose will provide valuable experience to the VFL side.

The defender averaged 12 disposals, three tackles and three marks across the last two seasons.

“Paddy is the ultimate professional,” Performance Coach Mark Corrigan said.

“He had a bit of a setback with his quad. He has done all the work and he’s been really diligent.

“We are rapt for him to be back out there.”

The Bombers have won the past two games against North Ballarat and the Northern Blues, by 135 points combined.

“It was really pleasing. We had consistent, four quarter performances,” Corrigan said.

“To come away with an 81 point win over the Blues, was really pleasing.”

The consecutive wins moved the Dons into sixth place on the VFL ladder.

“It’s good to be inside the eight,” he said.

“Ultimately, if we are playing good footy and the way we want to play, then that result and position on the ladder will take care of itself.

“It’s good to have our destiny in our own hands, as appose to relying on other teams.”

Casey is sitting just outside the eight, in ninth spot.

The Demons lost their last two games but regardless of past results, Corrigan said the Bombers can expect a tough contest on Saturday night.

“We know they’re very good at contested ball. They really value that side of the game,” Corrigan said.

“Melbourne are possibly going to have a few inclusions back so that’ll strengthen Casey.”

The last time the Dons and Demons met was in round 18 last year at Casey Fields, when the Bombers were defeated by 86 points.

“Last time we were out there, they really gave us a hiding so we owe them one but we know it’s going to be a tough contest and possibly won or lost around the ball,” Corrigan said.

“It’s a big ground and sometimes in varied conditions – it’s going to be a real challenge.”
