A refreshed Zach Merrett is among six inclusions for the Bombers as they prepare to travel north to take on Gold Coast.

Merrett missed the clash against Adelaide through suspension, but with his one-week ban served – he’s back to bolster the Dons midfield.

“There is no doubt it will freshen him up, it can’t do anything but,” Worsfold said of Merrett's week off.

“I’m pretty sure he will get back into the groove straight away.

“If anything it will be handy for him for the run home.”

Josh Begley has been named to make his debut while Craig Bird, Tom Bellchambers, Michael Hartley, Mark Baguley join Merrett in returning to the side.

Jobe Watson (managed), Matthew Leuenberger (ankle), Ben Howlett, Michael Hurley (calf), Travis Colyer and Matt Dea have been left out.

Bird returns after 28 disposals and ten tackles in the VFL last week against Box Hill.

“Regardless of whether it’s wet or dry he gets in and hunts the contested ball,” Worsfold said.

“We saw him do it against the Saints and he came in and did it really well.

“His form is still holding up really well.

‘We’ve got a player there that we know is going to come in and we’re pretty confident in what we’re going to get out of him.”

Worsfold said the Bombers would be looking to return to their best after two losses in the last three matches.

“We haven’t been that happy with how we’ve been playing over the last month,” he said.

“Our aim is to finish these last two home and away rounds really strongly.

“We know Gold Coast will try and test us out and that’s what we need.”
