Heath Hocking has been named Essendon’s Best Team Player at the Crichton Medal.

The 29 year old played two senior games this season but was pivotal in the match that sealed the Bombers spot in the finals.

He booted two goals against Fremantle in round 23 after receiving a call-up in the final minutes before the game.

Hocking was a key contributor in the VFL and won the side’s Best and Fairest award last week.

The tough midfielder earned praise from coaches for the attitude he displayed throughout the season.

“Heath would have loved to play more senior football, but his preparation, dedication and leadership never wavered,” Essendon Coach John Worsfold said.

“He’s a very selfless person in the way he plays the game, but also in how he cares for his teammates.

“People like Heath really enhance the culture and drive the standards within the playing group and he should be proud of what he’s achieved in his time at Essendon.”

The Club announced last month that Hocking would not be a part of its 2018 campaign.

"I want to thank the football club for the last 12 years. It's been an amazing time for me. I feel as though I'm a better person for being involved with the footy club," Hocking said.

"Thank you to my teammates and coaches. I have some great memories and I've met so many great people, with whom I will have friendships for life.”
