Draft Combine: Time trial

Eastern Ranges midfielder Dylan Moore won the 2km time trial in a time of 6:09 minutes.

Dylan Moore has ended an impressive week at the NAB AFL Draft Combine by taking out the 2km time trial on the final day of testing.

The Eastern Ranges midfielder, who was named an All Australian after an impressive under-18 carnival for Vic Metro, ran 6:09 minutes to narrowly pip Vic Country midfielder Lochie O'Brien, who ran 6:12.

Moore's win follows his excellent effort in Thursday's Yo-Yo test, when he finished second behind Andrew Brayshaw with a score of level 22.3.

Moore's aerobic base was already well-known heading into the week of athletic testing at Etihad Stadium, but his seamless run was a reminder of his capacity to play out games when others tire, which he has shown across a consistent season.

At 175cm Moore is at the smaller end, but his goalkicking craft when he pushes forward and neat skills, combined with his athleticism, means his most likely draft range is somewhere in the second round.

Geelong Falcons small forward Gryan Miers, less than two weeks after starring in his side's TAC Cup premiership with seven goals in the Grand Final, finished third overall after a 6:13 run.

Brayshaw backed up his Yo-Yo win by finishing fourth overall in the 2km time trial (6:14).

It was the first time the AFL has conducted a 2km time trial at the combine, after it replaced the 3km time trial, which has generally concluded testing in recent years.

AFL clubs tend to prefer to hold 2km time trials ahead of the longer distance, with an elite time considered to be around the six-minute mark. Any time under six minutes is restricted to the absolute top-end players, while a time under 6:30 is viewed as a strong run.
